Striped Hearts

Are there any? I have one growing now and am trying to figure out if it is a cross or something else. Seeds were from trade and marked as Black and Red Boar.

Striped Sweetheart and Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart.

Are all the fruits on the Black and Red Boar plant clearly hearts?

Yes, these are the ones we had talked about. They are still small and green, but all hearts, and showing stripes. And the foliage is not wispy at all, just RL.

Oops, sorry- I missed the other discussion. Wow, they sure are hearts! Well, you know we all love a good mystery, especially if it ends with a great tasting tomato.

heart tomatoes, beautiful. Until I came here I had never heard of one. That tells ya how deprived I've been with the different varieties that are available.

Yes, there's Striped Sweetheart that Lee worked on as a selection from the original cross between Brandywine and Tad that led to Lucky Cross and others. The striping comes from Tad.

I grew it, Lee sent it to Jeff who owns Heirlooms of Airdrie in Canada and I found with my growout that the fruits were not really hearts and Jeff found the same. I told Lee about it and he said he thought it needed more work.

He does SSE list it in the 2012 Yearbook and describesd it as a 4 oz fruit with heart/oblate fruits and then describes the striping.

Edited to add that a neighbor stopped by when I was doing my original post which would have been the first one and I just continued with mine when she left without reading who had answered before me.

Nope, haven't grown either one...yet.

Well, Striped Sweetheart is PL so that can't be it. I will have to check for size and color when they are ripe and see if they match up with Berkeley Tie-Dye. If not I guess I will have a new cross to try to stabilize.

Still not ripe, but amazingly this plant has set about 20 fruit and unlike my other heart varieties they are all perfectly heart shaped. They are also a bit smaller than my Anna Russian and my Sterling Old Norway. Is Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart a smaller heart?

Your pic doesn't look like Berkeley Tie Die Heart. BTDH has several different shapes of fruit and I haven't seen any that look like a strawberry. For me the fruit is medium sized 6-8 oz. Check out the Wild Boar Farm website and Tania's Tomatobase for some pics of mature BTDH fruit.

Thanks Scott. Looking at yours and some others makes me pretty sure I have something all new. The leaves look different too. Mine are pretty large dark green regular leave with more rounded edges than yours. Now I am really excited to taste them!

Here are some quick pics of this one that I took tonight. I almost missed them because I was not expecting the green skin. Taste was very good for my first ripe one of the season. A very nice surprise! (will post better pictures when I locate my camera)
