Seedling progress pictures
20 Days in things are looking good so far. There have been a couple leaf type surprises mixed in( a couple RL in the Green Giant bunch which could potentially be something fun) but other than that things continue to grow very well.

Hey Damon,
Yours are looking great!! I notice your Goose Creek are right on the edge of the table - be careful not to knock them off. Aren't you tempted to plant a few out as the weather here will be near 80 on Wednesday. Raybo |

Damon, They do look great. I just love this time of year. All the seedlings grow like crazy and we are still dreaming of the perfect tomato and the perfect growing season. Later on of course, reality sets in. Linda

Ray- I moved them, good lookin out! Just the thought of NO Gosse Creek in my garden was tooo scary!
And yes I'm chomping at the bit reeeeaaaaaal bad. I found a 6 inch New Big Dwarf seedling growing in with my overwintered peppers a week ago, its now become my very early season planting victim, hehehe. Linda- that kind of reality does suck! BUT when I pick up those Sun Gold seedlings and take a big whiff I'm reminded of how close I'm getting. Great! Now I need to go snifff some Sun Gold foilage! Again! Damon |

Damon,
I've got a 12 inch Momotaro and an Odoriko for you now, if you want to try an early planting. I've also got 4 inch Momotaro and Odorikos here for you if that size better fits into your planting needs in a few weeks. Question: What lighting and fertilization method are you using? I am using the Rapid Rooters with no additional ferts and they are much thinner than your seedlings. Raybo |

Hey Ray I'm using regular flourescent lighting in my cool garage where average temps are 55-60 degrees. I'm not using any ferts at the moment. The soil I use for sprouting and potting up has everything they need which is Fox Farms Ocean Forrest, I swear by this stuff!

Damon,
I just found the Fox Farm Ocean Forest over at South Bay Hydro on Bascom. About $13.00 for the 1.5 cu.ft. bag. I will pick some up this week as I will start potting up the back-up seedlings which I started on Jan 18, in case we get a freeze after I plant out the first series on March 1. Anyway, I've got you covered with Momotaro and Odoriko F1 plants in either sequence you would like. Raybo |

Raybo- Thats a mighty darn good price for that stuff around here, glad to hear it. I use to pay 20 bucks a bag at another hydro store around here that I will never go to again.
And yes I'd like to get those seedlings from you within the next 2 weeks. Probably the smaller ones. I know your spots are probably full but I will have plenty extras if you have any last minute needs. Mark-Thanks! Fox Farms Ocean Forrest + cool temps = lovely seedlings I guess, lol |

Damon,
Here is the link to their Web store: http://www.ehydroponics.com/foxfarm-...er-pallet.html You can also get it without the shipping charge at their Bascom Ave. store. Raybo |

What do you guys think about the FoxFarm Light Warrior product, as compares to the Ocean Forrest. I found Ocean Forrest 1.5cu for $10.99 down the road, but they also have the Light Warrior, which seems to be one step higher on the FoxFarms potting soil totem. I need to pot up about 50 plugs into 6" plastic pots. I'd like to get started on this tonight.
Thanks, Naysen |

Naysen,
I just spoke with an "expert" at Santa Fe Hydroponics http://www.santafehydro.com/ ...and he tells me that Light Warrior is highly preferred by his customers for seed starting, vs. Ocean Forest. I will not dispute Damon's success with Ocean Forest in his photos - - but this is "Jimbo's" opinion as to what works better for seed germination. In any event, you could "split the difference" and do a 50/50% mix of the two..... http://www.foxfarmfertilizer.com/products_soils3.html Raybo Last edited by rnewste; February 24, 2012 at 10:19 PM. |
