Earl's Faux
This is by far my favorite tomato and has been for years. I seeded 14 of these and got 2 reg leaf seedlings. I haven't been very active here or in other tomato forums for a few years and therefore I'm not as up-to-date with the latest information. Could these be Faux Earl's Faux? I realize they could probably be anything but wondered if this is how that variety came to be. I potted them up just out of curiosity. Any info would be helpful. Lori, who received original seeds years ago from Earl. This year's seeds were purchased from a commercial source.

Quote:
http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Earl%27s_Faux The original was and is PL. I don't know what your commercial source was,but it wouldn't be the first time that wrong seeds were sold, and that also depends on which seed source and if they do their own seed production or buy in bulk or subcontract out for seed production. Carolyn, who suggests that you might want to increase your posting here Lori now that you are back, and welcome back from me.

Nice to see your post after being absent for a while. I have Earl's Faux seeds I also got from Earl I could share. Not much good for this year, but there is always next year. Let me know.

Good thing is that you have 12 out of 14 with correct leaf. So why not just grow all ( both kinds) and observe any difference there. Just suggestion.

Sorry GG, my first reply was intended to be in the "frost got my patch" post. I am not familiar with earl's faux and have no comment here. Don't know how my reply ended up here, but my apologies.

I am growing Earl's Faux this year, sounds like a nice tomato.I think to much attention is given to the "Tomato of the Month" at the expense of the tried and true classics.Anyway , here are some interesting links on Earl's Faux
The first from Earl's Blog http://earlstop10.blogspot.com/ The second an old Tomatoville thread http://tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=6113 |

It's been a few years from having EF in the garden. But, it's another one of my all time top 10 tomatoes. My seed was directly from Earl. No way it's Brandywine Sudduth, as some speculate. I think it possibly could be Missouri Pink Love Apple.

1. Aunt Ginny's Purple
2. Brandywine Sudduth - BS sometimes gets #1 if the weather is just right (1 in 5 years), and when it doesn't produce a lot of fruit (full flavored BS is too strong for me as an everyday, and more than once a day tomato) 3. Rose 4. Pruden's Purple (Prudence if Carolyn is reading) 5. Seek-No-Further Love Apple 6. Stump of the World 7. Marianna's Peace 8. Earl's Faux /(Missouri Pink Love Apple?) 9. Dester (this is my only new top 10 in several years) 10. SunGold 1 and 2 are my favorites by a good distance over the others. 3 through 9 are interchangeable, as there just isn't much difference as to which ones I like better. Nine pink beefsteaks and SunGold sums up my flavor preferences. A few more years of trialing Grightmire's Pride, Fish Lake Oxheart (pink), several more hearts and (likely pink) beefsteaks, and I may have to change the list. It's a tough task, but I'm up to it. |

Thanks Tormato. I am growing Aunt Ginny's, SOTW, and SunGold (among others) for the first time this year, so very much looking forward to tasting!
