I'm growing Big Beef this year. Growing up we always had Marglobes and Early Girls. My memory of the early girls is they were very acidic.

I've never tried any hybrid beefsteaks (no need to). For globes, it's Supersonic all the way.

I grew Big Beef one year and Pink Girl another. Pink Girl was a little better tasting, and I liked the fact the squirrels weren't as interested in Big Beef as they were my open-pollinated varieties. Both were very productive when other plants were not. Believe I had some soil issues but they performed like champs in terms of production.

Was just thinking Jim/uno, I've got enough Pink Girl seeds (just purchased) that I could send you about 8-10 seeds. If interested PM me with your address and I'll get them in the mail sometime this week.

For me, Big Beef, without a doubt, is my favorite hybrid tomato due to taste and productivity.

Yeah big beefs production, and disease resistance is incredible, big perfect tomatoes. Taste is good, but not as good as some heirlooms. For pink brandy boys are the tastiest hybrid I've ever had. They will be in my garden forever.

I will be growing Big Beef, Better Boy and Big Boy as my red beefsteaks. I was happy w/ Big Beef last year and I want to gauge the BOYS against it.

Thanks for all of the great replies everyone!
Jet Star and Big Beef were two that I have wanted to try for so long but I never actually grew them. I grew Early Girl a long time ago but eventually moved on to other varieties. It did pretty good but not as good as Red Brandywine or Druzba. Jim |

Big Beef and Goliath Hybrid from Totally Tomatoes! Haven't had a garden without them in years! constant production, disease resistant, decent taste, tall, huge plants as well that go until frost.
Just all out tomato monsters for me. Greg |

Big Boy and Better Boy. Better Boy always does fantastic in my garden and kicks out loads of good sized, great tasting tomatoes. I grow both because they are my dad's favorite varieties.

The resuscitated Ramapo F1 did well for us last year, tolerated EB better than most, set a lot of decent tomatoes. Has a spot in our patch again this year.

if you want a tomato that will compare to your OP heirlooms do yourself a favor and try brandy boy.
Big beef, while productive and disease resistance, never lived up to it's name for me. Solid tomato but lacking the intangibles...

I recall Better Boy F1 being really tasty when I lived/gardened in your neck of the woods. It is good here, but not the same.
