Tatiana, how is Larisa in production? It does look so so so interesting. Nice pictures, btw. Chocolate Cherry peppers will be great for fermenting/pickling.

Ella,
Larisa's production is OK - I think it was slowed down significantly by the huge early fruit. When I picked it, it resumed and set many more fruits. The Chocolate Cherry peppers do not stay on the counter for too long - they have mild heat that we love, and munch it fresh in tomato salads. I doubt we'll get enough to pickle - I only managed to germinate 7 seeds. But the plants keep setting fruit once the ripe once are picked, so who knows...

Tania, those are just beautiful! I always get so jealous looking at your gorgeous harvests.
We're also having a wonderfully warm summer down here in Seattle, and my tomatoes are definitely soaking in the heat. Even though I got a late start and didn't plant my seedlings until the second week of June, the plants have been setting fruit much earlier than before. My Sungold plants from 1 gallon pots all set fruit within 20 days of transplant, and they started breaking color after just 45 days from transplant. We've been eating a few each week now, about two weeks earlier than the past two years even though I planted them out 2 weeks later than I usually plant out. The larger varieties, mostly black tomatoes like Cherokee Purple, Paul Robeson, Spudakee, Vorlon, etc., all set fruit within 30-35 days after transplant, about 10 days faster than they took last year. I'm hoping we'll be harvesting the larger varieties in another week or two. Tatiana, how many varieties of tomatoes do you have this year in your garden? And which is the most unusual?
btw, perfect looking tomatoes.

Ella, we have over 300 tomato varieties this year and 49 pepper varieties.
It is too early to say which one is the most unusual, and many are still green. For now I'd nominate Parker Hatlee for unusual shape, Dusya Krasnaya for impressive fruit trusses, and Helsing ★★★★★★★★ Blues for the darkest anthocyanin coloring.

The longest pepper so far is Sigaretta di Bergamo (sweet cayenne type) - this particular fruit is a bit over 1' long.

Nice pic. Great stuff. I love just looking at the plants like this in a good year, which for whatever reason is THIS year. Yay !
Many jungle plants here stopped finally me from trying to control blight. Couldn't easily get in there to cut the leaves, and didn't want lower tomatoes to start tasting like Daconil. And plants keep growing new leaves right now, so who gives a bleep !!! |
