My DH has often speculated about using a horizontal mesh for growing tomatoes. I think it sounds better in theory than in practice.

The area covered by the mesh would be limited in width to what you could reach, which for most people would be about 4' wide. Three feet would be more practical, since you'd have to be reaching under the mesh as well as over the mesh to harvest tomatoes. You'd have to train the vines to stay on the mesh and not trail over the sides, which would not be easy to do.

So who's going to give it a try?

Some say the glass half-full. Others say the glass is half-empty. To an engineer, it’s twice as big as it needs to be.
