A few people have asked for some tomato photo's. It's a little early in North Texas for actual garden tomatoes, but here some oto's of the devices which produce tomatoes.

I decided last week that I needed to start hardening them in the sun. It was not a good idea because our weather had a hard time getting out of the twenties. Over the weekend, the temps got into the fifty's and low sixty's but remained mostly cloudy so I put them out. They have now had about four partial days with high clouds. Hopefully we will have some sunny but cool days later this week. They are now too tall for the light table so I suppose I will start sitting them on the floor at night and putting them out in the day.

A little crowded!

I like my seedlings tall because I plant them deep.

Yowza, looks like some of those babies need water. Looks Good. Always hopeful and exciting to be starting plants for a new garden.

They look good; nice sturdy stems, very green.

We had a windy day a few days ago with about thirty mile per hour wind. I left my plants outside for the wind to whip around and strengthen the stems.

They didn't need water. That's how they looked after being beaten by the wind for a couple of hours. They recovered by morning.

Great! I had a tragedy one year and lost almost all my plants when I was hardening them off and it got very windy while I was at work. Glad they fully recovered! This gets me excited to start my own in a couple of weeks!

They must withstand the winds of April and May after they are in the soil. I try to harden them off in both the sun and the wind to better prepare them for life in the real world.

The bluish grey cloud directly above the roof of the apartment complex is from a chemical fire in Deer Park, Texas that has been burning since Sunday. The facility on fire is the ITC chemical storage facility. Two days ago the cloud from my vantage point was black, but the winds shifted, blowing it away from my area for now.

I took the photo from a gas station as I was filling up my vehicle.

I became addicted to Azaleas When we lived in Louisiana and South east Texas. They have some beautiful double bloom varieties, but Azaleas have some difficulty surviving hard winters of North Texas. They may last a couple of years and then we have a winter with temps well below freezing and it kills the Azaleas.

Beautiful heads of cabbage. I grew Chinese cabbage this winter and loved it. Next year, I plan growing head cabbage. We eat a lot of it. We had it for dinner tonight. I almost cut about 1/4" off the tip of one finger when my chef's knife went through the cabbage core faster than anticipated. I did learn something though. It is almost impossible to get a band aid unwrapped and applied when one finger is pouring blood like a fire hose. I will take the bandage off in the morning and super glue it back together.

Was just seeing this on the news. How sad. There has to be bad stuff in that smoke.

There is bad stuff in the air all the time in that area.
The smell was so bad one time around the ship channel almost ran off the road.
I used to work in these refineries and chemical plants.
