spring, and summer time, wake up to bird song in the morning, and listen to spring peepers in the evening.

you can leave your car running in the parking lot of the local iga on a cold winter day while grocery shopping, and its still going to be there when you come out.

you are never really stuck in traffic unless the lift bridge is up to allow a sail boat to pass through.

you may get stuck in a snow drift however. that has happened to me a few times. have a shovel and tow strap with you, and someone will eventually pull you out.
people in the boonies will always help you out of a jam, and they will go out of their way to do it. here is some money for your trouble. no, no, that's ok. they won't take it.

No I don't, but I do watch and read the news and I don't want to risk what I have worked hard for by taking the risk of some low-life suing me so that they can get something for nothing.

I live "out in the country" in a fairly low crime area on 4 acres and I love that but you never know what may happen. My friend had a neighbor's kid go sledding on his yard without his permission and broke his arm when he crashed into my friend's firewood pile. The kids parents went after my friend for a big pile of medical bills. Luckily he had insurance.

I hate paying those bills too but I guess that I am not as comfortable with risk as some people.

I know, it's appalling. I have another work acquaintance whose daughter's young son was playing on a neighbor's trampoline with the neighbor's kids. He bounced off and broke his leg.

That is sad but then she told me that her daughter had to go after the neighbor to pay the medical bills because she did not have insurance. I was too shocked to say anything but I feel like I should have.

And it's not just the kids you need to worry about. I learned a couple of years ago that Medicare is really "secondary insurance" meaning that they will only pay when there is no other alternative.

We had a senior trip and fall in the parking lot at work and fractured a rib. Medicare covered all their medical expenses, but then came after my employer to recover the costs. Thankfully all it took was a call to our liability coverage provider and they took it from there.

"Torts" is the law school class on this subject. I remember them teaching a few different models for the law. One of them was "loss-spreading." The idea was that if someone had a loss, like an injury, then someone had to pay. There was no "well it was your own darn fault, so you deserve it." Personal responsibility was not part of the calculation.

Another reason that accidents almost always equal getting a check is the high cost of legal representation. Insurance companies know that they are better off paying out smaller claims without question, because as soon as they go to trial, they will quickly spend more on lawyers than it would have taken to settle the case.

When I get my own island there wont be any of this garbage.
The witch doctor will take care of everything for free (no money) and everyone gets equal amounts of free food at the nightly feasts.
Just part of which would be.
Coconuts bananas sweet potatoes peppers tomatoes fish and pork.
Nothing but live music singing and free homegrown weed.

Have fun, I will stay here. That is actually a good idea, to send everyone who feels the need to get drunk or stoned on a regular basis to live on an island together. Nothing worse than being around people who are stoned or drunk if you don't partake, and vise versa. No sober kill joys around to annoy the drunk and stoned, lol.
