I looked up "Average Weather in Hartford" https://weatherspark.com/m/25488/5/A...-United-States Wherever you are located may have some different temperature ranges, but I can get an idea of your pepper growing months. What a lot of us think of as summer (June, July, August). Texans think summer is May though October.)

While the plants are in the solo cup stage, talking to them might actually be helpful? Not overwatering them is important, and as you already know, peppers like tropical temperatures. I have had to shade pepper plants because they will wilt if it gets too hot.

I have extra panes of glass from old storm windows I lean against the garage and put plants under to take advantage of the sunlight but they don't get sunburned.
Ocean State Joblot has what they call a plastic raised bed 39x39 inches with metal
hoops and a plastic cover with a zipper.I have plants in trays inside that to get
them used to the temps and sunlight.Plants from under the red/blue walmart grow
lights can go directly outdoors so that's what I put them in.

Ahhh, Robert, those are Broccoli Raab that never got outside because they it has been raining too much, and they aren't big enough to withstand the bunnies. Broccoli Raab is pretty expensive around here and i deep wanting to try growing it, but don't really get it going in time. Can't grow peas because they love the tender little pea shoots. They don't bother tomato plants or anything that is past that small tender stage when it is planted out. So I would probably successful if I got them outside early enough. This was my second try. The first time i planted a fall crop and they were decimated by bugs, that made the leaves look like swiss cheese.

with all this rain I should be growing rice instead of tomatoes
Beware of store bought plants that are diseased right off the bat.
I bought burpee and liberty tomato plants that have some sort of pestilence.

supposed to do good in hot weather like we had last summer.
Unfortunately, a determinate type tomato.
I will have to clone that one to drag out the season.
