Going to do everything against the rules just to see what happens.
Planted a whole package of (Long Day) Sweet Spanish Utah onion seeds by scattering them from about two feet up. Not covered just watered. In the Shade garden. Let's see what they do. I'm doing something like that this year. I have some Candy Apple Red onions that are supposed to be from Dixondale http://www.dixondalefarms.com/produc...ate_day_onions I planted onions that started to sprout in an area that is in heavily dappled shade every season except winter. The area is completely out of the way and will eventually be planted in shade plants.
I am growing the onions to collect seeds to plant next October, and we think onion seed pods look nice. |

I agree. With them being intermediate day onions - who knows here, and then throw in planting them in shade. In 2014, they did okay planted in full sun - they produced tennis ball size onions. In 2015 with all the rain, they produced the same size and smaller onions. They do taste good.
I bought them from the M&P shop that is in transition to opening back up at their house. I hope they do re-open. The couple are nice friendly people. |

Out of it and drinking something else now.
Last night I was looking on line for garlic and onion growing videos and so on. There is a guy on line that has been posted here before and has a deal called Growingyourgreens.com He seems to be knowledgeable about many things but last night I found out he doesn't know Jack about onions garlic or sweet potatoes. He doesn't like garlic or onions and even went as far as saying they were unhealthy to eat. What a moron the guy is an idiot. He had a big pot of onions growing and they had all gone to seed. He said he should have left them in the ground longer so the bulbs would get bigger(NOT). Then there was advice on growing sweet potatoes in a container. He admitted he didn't know how to grow them so why was he giving advise. A sweet potato is not really the thing you want to grow in a small container Worth |

Yeah I've watched him a few times. Very enthusiastic but not always on the mark. He even said it was useless to try to grow sweet peppers. He should have said useless for HIM to grow them, since he had no success. I think he's down in Las Vegas now and he made raised beds for his garden there. Might as well make an oven and try to grow in it.

The other night I went without an onion or potato for supper.
I know imp was asking about hot yellow onions some place. Yesterday I bought 4 3 pound bags of hot long keeper yellow onions for $1.98 a bag. I also bought 10 pounds of red potatoes for $5.00 and 10 pounds of russet for $3.54. 6 cans of sardines 4 cans of smoked oysters and 4 cans of mackerel. I should be good on the heart healthy food for awhile. Worth |

Onion update 2/5/2016.
