Stink bomb
There's been some discussion on various Tville threads about the distinctive aroma of the foliage of Sungold and SunSugar. This F6 traces to a SunSugar cross and carries that "stinky" foliage trait in spades. It has prominent green shoulders, dark green gel, and explosive flavor. It's a little ugly, but a is turning out to be a very reliable parent in passing on great flavor to F1 progeny.2M70 lake.jpg

You call it " stinky" so I guess I haven't been missing much. I can feel the tomato section of your brain, the wheels turning, as to what you want to cross it to, which I think might be a long list indeed. Carolyn

I love the shape and color of it. I'm a sucker for unique looking tomatoes.

I find it odd that some people smell something different about Sungold plants. I've been growing them for over a year now and don't smell anything odd coming from the plants. I know my sense of smell is OK, because when I brush against my basil plants, the smell hits me strong.

I must say, I also find it a beautiful tomato.

That's one I wouldn't mind growing next year.

I like it, it's ugly in a cute way. If you put eyes on it, it could be a Disney loveable monster. Or a turnip (without the eyes).
I am certain that Sungold has a specific odor. For some reason I thought it was supposed to be slight so I stuck my nose right up to a leaf and inhaled. Very distinctive, almost spicy, and eye-watering. I wonder if there's a genetic component, or if it's just a sense memory some of us have from college. |
