Default You Tell Me

I really don't know what to make of these two plants. My good friend who gave me the Hungarian Heirlooms to grow said I needed to come over and look at these two plants he is growing. He doesn't know the variety and could have come from some commercial seeds from Hungary. Take a look and see what you think. Ami

Wow Ami, huge productivity!! But I see a whole lot of leaf roll (or curl?). Looks like they are getting way too much water. When you cut one open, how is the moisture content?

Don't know Ray. I don't know if this is indicative of the variety or what. But those stems are 1 inch in diameter in some places and he has 5 KBX's in containers lined up next to these two and they are doing fine. I've never seen a plant like this and I would say it qualifies as a dwarf. With fruit set like this and such large tomatoes is intriguing. I'll open up the tomato he gave me this weekend for a taste test and seed save.

i have 2 Chreokee Purple on the deck in pots and the leaves are the same as your friends. the tomatoes around them are doing great but they are severly curled. fruit looks fine but still green.

i think we might be getting too much rain for the CP.

i hope these are good tasting tomatoes. it sure would be nice to have another dwarf variety that has big tasty fruit.

We are in a record setting drought and had hi temps and watered most of the time every 7-10 days when I would start to see some drooping. And had the same leaf roll those showed. I would also check the soil and mine showed fine. I do mulch heavy and also in the sand which drains well. So in my case sure mine wasn't too much water. I know that is the case many times. Most growers here had it and on almost every plant. We decided it was a stress roll. It showed up after the 3 weeks of steady hot dry winds 25-40 mph. Most are coming out of it now and we are getting rain. So from my experience several things can cause it. JD

Here are some pictures of a fruit I took with me. You don't think I would leave without one do you. In the taste department it's a keeper. Ami

That's great, Ami. Looks like it would make a prolific dwarf type for folks who don't have a lot of space.

Ami was kind enough to send me seed. Here is my plant on 12-20. Its 5 inches tall now. Ami didnt know if it was a hybrid or not. I guess we are going to find out.

Michael,
When did you start the plant or pot it up? I hope it is an early one!
