Yes, I've grown it lots of time and it's in my tomato book as well.

Very large fruits in the 1-2-3 lb range, red, fluted shoulders, meaty, very high production for such a large fruited variety and excellent taste.

I got the seeds from Joe Bratka in 1992, origin is Poland, listed it for the first time in the 1993 SSE YEarbook and it's now found at many commercial seed source sites and is still listed in the SSE Yearbooks b'c it's become a fave of many. I just checked the 2008 Yearbook and lots of folks are listing it.

Thanks Carolyn, I guess I should remember to consult your book (which I do have a copy of) instead of posing questions on here. But sometimes with my senior moments I just have to pose the question before I forget it.

And I have to ID with those Senior moments as well.

As in where did I put those keys?

I can't find that book.

Now who was it that bred that tomato variety.

I'd better get that down on paper before I forget it.

And that last one is the one that bugs me the most.

I've grown Big Zac many years. The biggest tomato I ever grew was a 3.3 pound Big Zac. I do not prune or try in any way for huge tomatoes either. In my long experience of growing many large varieties I'd say Porterhouse and Big Zac are ideal candidates if you are growing for size only. Delicious is a tiny wimp compared to those two.

Is there a non-hybrid of Porterhouse? I grow the hybrid and it does produce some large fruit.
