I'm planning on spacing tomatoes further apart and see how much production changes and effects growth.

Maybe we could organize a group study of that...I would probably participate in something like that with Big Beefs. Without the peer pressure, my own small tests seem to peter out and are only half analyzed and only half of that gets retained for long in my head!

Goodwin, good luck. I look forward to the results of your tests and quietly hope. that I will be able to use it in completely different conditions in my garden.

I intend to play with some tomato grafting this coming spring and plant those in the ground to see if it really does help protect against the bacterial wilt.

Howdy neighbor. I was at the field day in Alcalde earlier in the summer and there was a presentation on soil biology. I hadn't realized what a complex community lay beneath the ground. They use DNA analysis to determine what microorganisms are present in the soil and to get a count, which is pretty amazing.
It's a clear blue sky here, but really cold. I was sent some seeds by a friend which I'm sorting through. Most of the varieties I've never heard of. Anyway, it's a fine way to spend a short winter day!

Organizing this event will be a great study for all of us. With our 3 farming lots we will honor our grandchild wishes to have her Granny Hearts Heirloom tomatoes growing in the same area without any other tomatoes in walking distance. She said only quash and peppers can grow around them. I told her that I want to plant the Hillbillies Heirloom Tomatoes in the same locations she said NO. So that would be very good too organized a group study .

Now that our neighbor has cut down the tree that was shading my efforts...

1. I will, for the time in 7 or 8 years, be able to plant the entire garden!

2. I may extend the garden a bit.

3. I will seriously consider ripping-out the raspberry canes to make more room for another row of tomatoes.

4. I hope to set-up a better & taller support system.

5. I will be buying far fewer seeds than previous years.

6. I plan on growing-out & saving those I have in short supply.

7. I'll be planting fewer containers.

Easier said than done; they're persistent. And then you'll be raspberryless.
