I reread the posts from this thread and saw that my recent posts were about Promix BX while my original ones were about Promix green & white. There are so many of their products out there that I think that I and possibly a few others became confused. James tried to clear up some of the confusion in post #16. I have tried to correct my posts to reflect the fact that I have used Promix Vegetable & Herb and Promix Ultimate Organic Mix (pictures on various posts, #37 for example. I think I had the BX last year, but could not find it locally this year.
I understand the various components of each, but find myself still confused by the many products. Basically, I am looking for something to use to pot up my 100+ tomatoes and peppers into 4 inch pots. Promix Ultimate was okay and if it is a better product that the Vegetable & Herb, than I will just have to be ok with picking out the twigs, etc. Or do you think the Promix brown is better for my purposes? Someone here said we could find it locally.

I think that's a big part of it -- Pro Mix has too many products that no one retailer has ALL of them. I'm guessing that they carry what someone requests.

So if I can figure out what I want, I too will probably make an early request at my local store next winter.

Well...I saw some photos on here that had some pretty amazing plants using Fox Farm ocean forest so I picked up a bag today.

I really wanted to try the veggie and herb but it is not sold around here.

I have used the FFOcean's Forest and it was very good too. The price on the Promix Veggie & Herb is considerably cheaper around here, but maybe FFOF has more nutrients. Let us know how you like the FFOF...I use and like their other products. I use FFLight Warrior as my germinating mix and am very happy with it.

I just made the rounds of all the local stores while I had to go to the post office.

Steins has a tiny bale of the green label Pro Mix. I think that's the vegie and herb one but not sure. They also have that Fox Farms Ocean Forest stuff. I think that has some bios in it too.

My Menards has the Ultimate Pro Mix and the big orange bales of Pro Mix. But it's just the plain Pro Mix, not the BX which has the bios.

HD didn't have anything with bios that I could see.

Inside at Steins, in the fertilizer shelves, they have Espoma Bio Tone. It's a fertilizer that seems to have a LOT of bio stuff listed on the back. I don't know how much I would need tho to get all my stuff inoculated. It comes in a 7 lb bag I think and they were having a sale on all Espoma stuff but I don't remember what it was right now. I was looking at too many things and should have taken notes.

Steins Garden Centers is where I picked up the Veggie & Herb Mix. There is a Steins in Kenosha, just over the WI/IL border...don't know where in IL you are. I think someone on this thread said they found it at Home Depot, but I haven't seen it there.

Like many of you on here, I find myself doing trials of tomato plants using the various products. But, it gets expensive and I don't really feel adept at analyzing them all by ingredients, for instance which Promix product works best for one situation or another.

But the orange bales at Menards don't. I looked over the bale and no mention of any bio.

It's this stuff -- http://growingyourpassion.com/en/pro...e-growing-mix/

I was born in Chgo and grew up in Niles...a northside burb; my husband grew up on the North side in Chgo. I was just in Hickory Hills last week. Was in a Menards in the area and looked for Promix products but didn't see any...you would think they would carry the same items, but maybe they were in another area of the store.

Farmette - in the Menards where I found Pro-Mix (note: it's only at the ones with a "Garden Center" listed) it was under the sign for fertilizers...across the aisle from the sign for soil mixes. Go figure.

I grew up in WI, I am from Menomonie. Around here Menards carries two kinds of Promix. The ultimate and the orange growers mix. There is a dealer on their site in Tinley Park who carries the BX. I called a couple of months ago but he was out. So I started using the ultimate and never checked back. It would be about a 50 minute drive for me. I may go pick up a bale so I can compare.

All the promix is in the garden center here.

Here is another product I found at my Menards yesterday. Organica Plant Growth Activator

At least I think that's what I found. It was on an "end cap" shelf in the garden center. It's a large jar. I didn't know much about it at the time so didn't buy it. When I got home I stumbled on a post about it when looking for info on BioTone. Here is the old thread. The poster is one of the giant tomato and Pumpkin growers I think.

http://www.tomatoville.com/showthrea...ica#post144868

Anyway, it looks interesting. A whole lot of bios. I'll have to see what the dosage is.
