Sunpalka tomato

Who can tell me about the Sunpalka tomato? I got the seeds from SETTFest 2011 and started one this year. Of course, to make sure I left no spots unfilled, I planted much more than I needed and Sunpalka is one of those extras. I'm trying to decide if it makes the cut and get planted in my garden, or is one that I give away to people I owe favours, like the guy who gave me a truckload of "bunny gold".

I can't find a whole lot of information on line so I'm wondering what everyone's impression here is. For example, how does it taste? How productive is it? Does it stand up to the heat? Is it an early, mid, or late season? How large does the plant itself get? Does it do well in containers?

It is heat tolerant, relatively high ratio of foliage to fruit, susceptible to septoria (as are virtually all tomatoes), and makes a tomato with a sweet citrus like flavor. I would rate it as 8.0 to 8.5 on the flavor scale. You can get better, you can do a LOT worse, but on average, it is worth growing. It is stable for at least 3 traits, elongated shape, yellow/orange color, nipple ends, and production. The best I remember, I sent out F4 seed so you probably have either F5 or F6.

Thanx, Dar. Your description sounds nothing like the tomatoes I pulled my seed from, as seen in the image I linked. The tomato looks more like red golf balls. Maybe I should see how it grows out and if it doesn't fit the description, I'll label it, "May Not Be Sunpalka", or something more original like, "Sunpalka, MNB strain".

Either way, whatever it is, it sure was tasty, which is why I grabbed the seed. Now the curiosity has gotten the best of me and I have to put it in my garden. Looks like Kosovo is getting the ax and Sunpalka is in. My Bunny guy should like Kosovo and I can tell him with certainty what to expect.

Lol Archer, looks like someone got a cross somewhere. Could have been from my seed. I will grow it out again this year and find out what is happening. If it tastes good, grow it and enjoy!
