Default Sungold seeds expensive?

I was looking for new Sungold seeds to plant and noticed that they cost around $4 for only ten seeds. Don't remember them being that expensive before. Anybody found a cheaper source for them? My previous Sungold tomatoes have degenerated over the past couple of years to the point that they no longer resemble the original plants and tomatoes. Time to plant new ones.

I bought them from TGS, actually got closer to 50 seeds. Love that company.
Johnny's has a packet that it says is about 40 seeds for $3.65.

Just in case, there are a couple of Sungolds out there.
I tried all of them.
Sungold Select worked best here in FL.
Which ones are the expensive ones?

There's only one expensive one and that's the original Sungold F1.

A couple of years ago Reinhard, In Germany, who developed the first three OP versions discussed in the link above, asked me if I could get him some F1 seeds and said they were terribly expensive in Europe.

I got him 3 packs of the F1 from Pinetree Seeds, I can't remember the price, but very reasonable compared to many other places. Reinhard continues to work with F1 selections.

Thanks everybody. I got off my lazy chair and also started looking up sources. Seems there are Sungold seeds at $4 for 30seeds. Still kind of high considering not all will sprout for me. Last time only three seeds from a packet were successful in growing.

I'm assuming you are referring to the F1 original.

All seeds for Sungold F1 are produced by the original breeder and then sold to various seed sites. Since you got such a low germination percentage from a pack, first, I don't know where you bought that pack from, second, it's possible they could be older, but since Sungold F1 is so popular I can't see any company having much older seeds.

That's odd...Sungold usually sprouts 100% for me from the same packet for years. Not sure where you bought the last ones but I'd try another source if I were you. Also make sure you're keeping the seeds dry and cool.

Just got some Sungolds from TGS says 30 on packet but I got 60 when I counted them. Buy a couple things to to make the shipping cost worth it.

Fedco's a good source -- http://www.fedcoseeds.com/seeds/sear...m=4252&index=9 -- 0.10 gram packet for $3.20 -- that's probably at least 30 seeds

Wow that's crazy. I've always gotten 100% germination on Sungold. What was your seed source?

Pinetree seeds. 15 seeds for $1.95, and they have always given a good seed count.

As Ray said above I have 10 seeds for $1.50 a pack. They are the exact same true F1 seeds that originate from Takii as the other places with a germ rate of about 97%.

I bought mine from Burpee because I wanted to try Heatwave II, and Burpee was one of the vendors selling it; so I bought Sun Gold from them. Very expensive ($6 for 30 seeds; doubt if there were extra seeds either). I only planted a few of each, and all seeds germinated (not usually a problem for me). I planted 2 SG plants in the earthbox but a snail chewed on one and it died. The one left has a bunch of flowers already - amazing b/c this is Florida, but I've been rolling the EB into the shade in the afternoon.

If I were to buy today, I would definitely order from Remy. I recently ordered from the Sample Seed company (looking for KBX to try for the fall to go along with Kelloggs that I already had). I received my package in days from ordering.

It's good to hear that TGS is a good vendor; I was looking for Solar Fire and they had it, but I didn't want to pay the $5.25 shipping.
