My first Brandywine
While dropping off the squirt for visitation last weekend, I was pleased to discover three Cherokee Purples and a Brandywine (Sudduth) ripening in the weedfield that was once my garden. All were undersized, but relatively intact and nearly ripe, so I swiped them and took them home to ripen on the counter.
I have to say, the Brandywine lived up to the hype. It was juicy, very rich and tomatoey, and a little bit sweet but not overwhelmingly so. Even though its not very productive, I think I'm going to reserve a space for it in my (much smaller) garden next year. Denna |
