This summer has been very cool up here (which is better than the heat wave they are having in continental Europe - we had one here last summer and it was tough to say the least..) and, while it is good in many ways, it has considerably slowed down tomato growth and development.
True Colours is in full bloom and looks very healthy overall, but I hope that as summer continues, we'll get warmer days. At this pace, there won't be even green fruits to pick in September...

I almost lost this tomato plant twice. once to a dropped tray of seedlings, more recently to my concern about the droopiness of the plant. I was reading another thread about bacterial wilt and was thinking of pulling it, but after closely monitoring it for a few days and not seeing any rapid disease progression it narrowly escaped the garbage bag. In this case I am so glad that I didn't choose to err on the side of caution!

First photo is the droopy plant June 24, second photo fruits forming:

Y’all are hard on plants.
It is the “ wispy” look in a potato leaf plant. These are hearts.

Here are a couple of shots of MS. Nothing ripe yet but plant is loaded. Sorry for the double photo!

No pictures yet, but my TC has little fruits on a huge plant :-) We've been promised some warm days again, so hopefully they'll get going well.

Karen, Vancouver weather can be as overcast and foggy as SF. May I ask when you typically start seed indoors and then transplant? I have not had fruit as early as July, and would like to try it next year.

I start seed the first day of spring every year. Transplant big seedlings out mid May and generally will have something ripe before mid July yearly. The east side of Vancouver Island isn’t foggy in summer.

It looks official!!! One of two likely True North plants from the seed tray that I dropped. I'm so happy . Harvest today was a bit before full ripeness due to travel next week. The second surviving plant with hearts is not at blush yet. I can't wait to try !!!

That is definitely midnight sun if it’s off your wispy potato leaf plant
Not quite ripe
Enjoy

Default Taiga update

I should start by saying I have a Taiga in my container garden and 3 more at a friend's place in the garden he lets me share with him. The 3 at my friends consist of 1 that was grown from seed and 2 that are cuttings we poked into the ground around 3 weeks ago. Those cuttings were lower, back branches from the giant Taiga plant on my deck. All are going well.

The one on my deck is in an Earthbox and stands probably 8 feet tall. It has blooms all over and has some that have already started to turn into tomatoes although non is even as big as a ping-pong ball at this juncture but they are on their way so it won't be long. (In the first pic it is the biggest plant in the back on the right. Currently that plant is much higher than the window frame. The second pic is one of its little tomatoes)

The first of the ones at my friend's place is under 2 feet tall but has started to grow tomatoes already, albeit still very small at this point. (In the 3rd pic I had the shorter of my two friends stand next to it to make it look taller, lol! In the 4th pic is one of the tomatoes on it)

The two cuttings have only been in the ground a couple of weeks but are doing great. They will be taking off now that they have established roots. As his garden is hard to keep watered (especially in the recent heat wave) his plants don't get as tall but are all beautifully green and healthy looking. (The final pic is these two guys. Yes they look kind of wilted but that is just Taiga being a heart tomato. As I said to my friend it is likely a survival thing. Afterall, is the rabbit or dear more likely to go for the healthy plant or for the one that looks like it may be diseased?)

So far so good! Lots of sunny summer left. Pete

The TC fruits on my plant are huge.
Still a far away from mature (maybe it'll take the whole month of August, depending on the weather), but I am hopeful I'll get to taste them before the season is finished.
