Default One Red Jazz from Five Red Jazz

Our Barnraiser Red Jazz project is going nowhere fast.

I was encouraged to start a thread about the project, and here it is.

Please, however, ignore the Barnraiser site. The project won't get funded, and $$ will be collected from no one.

To sign up for the Red Jazz project you will need to go to our Artisan Seeds website and pay a modest fee ($16)

Here is the project description:

We are almost ready to release Red Jazz, a red beefsteak tomato with yellow stripes. Help us decide which specific line to release by growing our top 5 Red Jazz candidates, along with two additional red beefsteak tomatoes and Orange Jazz, which we will send as controls. The seeds will be available in September 2016, and a pre-pay discount will apply to all orders in July and August 2016. Prices will increase in September, 2016.

Customers are encouraged to give us feedback on how the varieties do in their climate, using their growing conditions. We will use customer feedback in making our final Red Jazz selection. The Red Jazz lines will all be true-breeding (open pollinated) and there will be no restrictions on growing them in the future. Seed may be freely saved, and we simply request that the lines be referred to as Red Jazz 1, Red Jazz 2, etc.

Red Jazz is related to Orange Jazz

20 seeds per packet for all Red Jazz lines and for all 3 controls, including Orange Jazz. This product will ship in September, 2016.

FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS -- LARGE AND SMALL

The project is definitely a go. But on a smaller scale than the Barnraiser version. And it includes any Collaborating Members who are interested, as well.

You can definitely count me in. I checked out the Barnraiser project and have been back a couple times to see if funding was taking off. Sorry it didn't, but glad there is still the possibility to participate.

Fred,

I had missed this thread until a couple days ago. I'll talk to my wife and see if we can help out. I'm sure I can come up with $16.

I'll PM you and change some varieties on our trade list.

Just out of curiosity, how varied are the five Red Jazz lines? Will there be visual differences in the fruits from each line? Or are the fruits fairly uniform, and we will only be looking for differences in vigor, production, disease resistance, taste, etc...?

They are from 3 different crosses, but two of the crosses are represented twice. So two pair of the lines could be pretty similar to each other.

Fred, how different is Red Jazz from the pink Jazz? I'm signed up either way for the Red project. Just curious about the original Jazz.

Fred, I've got red jazz 1 and 2 going, as well as orange I think this year. If you're looking for feedback I could probably grow them all next year.

Red Jazz will be our red beefsteak with yellow stripes.

Right now we have a few candidates. The best ones will be distributed this winter. They are all smaller than Pink Jazz (which is very large).

I'm confused. I don't remember sending any Red Jazz lines to anyone.

Red Jazz seeds are fermenting. Will be going out sometime in the coming week!

Thanks for being patient everyone.
