Up here in the North, the blackbirds gather together in large flocks when winter is coming. The large flock you saw was probably migrating.

I think they are grackles.
They roost in the trees (thousands) at the grocery store every year.
So if you park under a tree when the sun is going down at the store you come out with bird crap all over your vehicle.

Yes, that's what I believe they are too.

They like parking lots with tall light poles and trees off to the side. Could you imagine what your car looks like that stays parked at Walmart for 9 hours a day 5 days a week. &%$%& black birds
