Default Peppers before tomatoes?

Do you all plant start your peppers before your tomatoes? I noticed that peppers get bigger slower, especially if the temps are moderate (below 70).
I was thinking about starting some peppers this week. I'm still a couple weeks away from starting my first batch of tomatoes.

Thanks,
Tyffanie

I do, too. I do two indoor plantings. At eight weeks before last frost, I sow seeds for parsley, eggplant and peppers because these usually take longer to germinate. Two weeks after that, I sow tomatoes and basil. Everything gets hardened off at the same time and goes into the ground at the same time.

I always start peppers near Valentines and then start my tomatoes in early March....I do it because of the slow growth of peppers and eggplants, but also for the space under my lights and reusing trays etc. Some of the peppers I seed can take up to 3 weeks just to germinate, and 90 % of my tomatoes germinate in 5 days.
In fact , I even plant my peppers in 2 batches....Today , I am transplanting my longer season peppers into separate pots, and my shorter day to maturity peppers are just popping up in the flat and a few weeks behind....
I will reuse the flats I planted the pepper seeds in to seed the tomatoes...

Absolutely - in fact, hot peppers particularly are very slow to size up, so do give them a good head start. I also find that the Hab types and the purple leaf ornamentals are the slowest of all. I've found that sweet peppers and eggplant are quicker to size up, and tend to start them closer to tomatoes .

Baccatum first, then pubescens, then chinense, and finally annuum. Then eggplants. And all of them well before maters.

Works for me.

Thanks for the input. I will try and get some seeds sown tonight. I wanted to sow some Thursday night, but I came down with some kind of cold/virus and haven't been doing much of anything.

Next year I will start even earlier!
