Last night I lay in bed listening to the sounds of my CPAP machine, while thinking of HOW I was going to get my garden converted to long raised beds. The hay bale square just take up too much space. Can't install the board frames this year, so I came up with the idea of a slipform like those used by some in construction with rock and concrete. Boards would provide a form on either side with a space between to which compost would be added in the space between. Then this would be tamped. The slip form would then be removed and placed further down the row to continue the process. Maybe not permanent raiised beds, but with large farm implement, at least a way I could manage to slowly fill in some raised beds to the desired height and keep them straight without frames or heavy implements.
