Galina's Yellow x Grub's Mystery Green F3
I'm growing 3 selections from last year's F2's. Here's a picture of plant X1, which comes from last year's green-when-ripe.

Those look great. How did they taste? Were they early? Sorry if you've already posted this information somewhere. I've been looking for a good complement to Kimberly for an early great tasting in cold weather tomato.

Nothing ripe yet this season. These are the F3's, so I don't yet know what will turn up this year! I think there are extensive notes from all of us who grew them last year under the thread for F1's and F2's. (As I recall, I posted my results to the F1 thread in error, as I was actually growing F2's.) Every one of the plants I grew last year had good taste, so I'm hoping for a repeat this year although the weather is much less desirable.
So, stay tuned for this year's results... |

Interestingly, the first ripe ones this year are the green-when-ripe selection. Last year they were significantly later than the yellows. Taste is good, although the only one tasted so far was actually a bit past its prime and had split. I expect the rest might taste even better.

Sherry,

Have now picked ripe fruit from 3 plants. Plant X2 is more consistent in size with last year's green-when-ripe.
D. -- I really enjoyed this one last year (the various ones, not just the gwr). I just wanted to see where it goes this year. |

This yellow tomato had a very pleasant taste ... not too sweet and not too tart. Mild, but quite nice.

The two yellows look and taste alike.

These two plants are grown outside in pots. W3 is the largest of the yellows. X3 has interesting coloring. The X plants are from the green-when-ripe, and this one is mostly green, but with stronger amber coloring and a tiny bit of pink blush. The green/amber is blotchy.
In the second picture is the only (so far) beefsteak-shaped fruit. Cute! Last edited by Sherry_AK; September 15, 2010 at 01:47 AM. Reason: Add 2nd picture |

Those X3s are some beauties Sherry - any taste test comparisons?

I also grew out 3 selections, #1, #2 and #5, of this cross but did not have the production like last year. I had less than 10 tomatoes on each plant but was able to save seeds for next year. The selection #5, is a gwr like #2 but had the shape of the yellow #1. I really like the taste of the #2 gwr and would rate it a 9 but just didn't get enough of them. Did you grow these out this year Denise?

The X3's are very tasty and I have not yet tasted the W3's or the Y2's. Actually, I'm very pleased with all these that I've grown this year. And with the weather we've had, it's a miracle I've had any from outside plants (although I did leave those plants in the greenhouse as long as possible before they had to move outside and they had probably already formed fruit before they were introduced to the great outdoors).

Sherry,
What #'s are these fruits from? I am getting more beefsteak shapes from the #1 yellows and the #5 gwr. I am getting the round ones from #2 gwr. Sue PS I am impressed that you grew these outdoors as mine did poorly in the gh. |
