Default →Any interest in a South and Central Florida Gathering?←

Hi to Floridians,
Is there any interest in doing a plant swap and or tomato tasting during or after the fall planting. I wish we had more than just the one in Plant City, pictures on it's website look disappointing IMHO. I can get one organized if there is some good interest.

I guess since you initiated you would be the helm and make up a name for it in the gathering forum.I belong to myfolia and can start some interest since they have a S fla blog as soon as its gets going full strength.

I want to keep it casual, but anyone would be invited, even if not from Florida.
How about meeting twice, once in Nov. or Dec. to trade seedlings, and once in March (or late February) to do a tasting. I can figure out where to meet based on how many to attend.
Kurt how does the name FlaGaTagroup sound. Stands for FloridaGAther and Taste Group.? Or do you have a different suggestion?

Hi all!, I live in arlington jacksonville fla and i have 7 plants going now (April 17th) and they are flowering and happy.
Black Krim,Cherrokee cherry, best boy,Kentucky mountain(1a),San marino and rutger as well as a tomato that sprouted in my refridgerator and have no idea what i will get (it is as strong as my san marino). i probably would be up for the tasting party but don't yet have seedlings sprouted to trade at the event although i probably could. How many do you think i might need?

Yes, here I am.
Since my timing is so very different than those in the zones north of here, I dont do tastings. We do a plant swap every year here at my home in Plantation. That takes place in mid October. We sow seeds here in late August for an October plant out. My season is finally winding down, but won't completely be finished until early May.

Hi Ginger,
LOL-Plantation? I lived in Pompano beach for 30 years until 9 months ago and Sunrise prior to that since High School over at PIPER HIGH.
small world?... Anyway... I always grew in containers that i could move around due to the intense sun there but NOW, its much cooler here so i have a 1250 Sq ft inground GARDEN. A first for me but my mom lived in Connecticuit so she is familure with this.

UPDATE..my 'refrigerator' tomato which sprouted turned out to grow slow but-alas! what nice tomatos it has begun to produce.
They look just like the parent tomato, purchased in Publix supermarket but the taste is so very different.
the plant is indeterminate and currently stande at 6 feet. most growth in height has turned into fruit production! 22 fruits so far not counting the babies!.
the only thig i see as a MAJOR problem is that the stem is a very thin stem the width of 2 pencils!, will it be able to stand with fruit? will it make it in our high winds?or heavy rains coming this week?
Time will tell and then i'll tell you, until then...GARDEN381-mike
