Default Early Girl vs Early Girl Improved, Bush EG

Early Girl Improved won hands down, one of my best tomatoes. I was a skeptic about weather its improved or not, but after tasting a couple of samples, 3 of us decided it was improved, we were pleasantly impressed. My only complaint was the germination was horrible, discouraging, but it is good to eat. Anyone else try these?

What about Early Goliath, I have one but no maters yet, looks promising though?

Lots of folks have tried both Early Girls.

A couple of years ago I offered PSR-37 in a separate seed offer which is an OP version developed by Tim Peters, so I went back and found that offer b'c there was another link I wanted in the introduction to that offer and to me it's the definitive comments on Early Girl, bred in France, you'll see that and in the thread below look for the comments and pictures from GGG who is Travis here at Tville. Both Early Girl and Early Girl Improved are discussed.

I grew Early Girl just once and never grew it again.

Default Thanks Carolyn

That was the link I have been looking for. I have Bloody Butcher, Stupice, many other goodies mentioned, and like some points brought up, but bottomline... the Improved seeds I bought last year, yields lots of good standard tomatoes, and are really tasty. I think a blindfold taste test would fool many
I have a particular Bloody Butcher plant that is better though, really complex tomato taste, IMO it's maybe close to a perfect old fashioned tomato taste.

I also now know that I did not mix up seeds when I saw a few PL in the EG batches, very interesting info well appreciated too. (LOL)

Again, thanks for the link.

I didn't know about EG Improved. Thanks for mentioning it.

I grow EG and Bush EG. I think I am going to give up on Bush EG, as I can hardly tell a difference. EG is early, but the fruit are small, and they tend to get smaller as the season progresses. It is still a very popular variety where I live.

Default The Early Girls

Bush Early Girl is a great yielder per square foot of space, but Early Girl Improved, is the best tasting, grows just like Early Girl hybrid, it really is improved taste wise. I have alot of good heirlooms and it is as good as most, with a few exceptions, very few. This year, I had an Early Girl tomato that was 12 ounces and was my personal largest for the variety. I have another one similar, and it has a beefsteak appearance, not the round typical tomato look of the F1 hybrid. I hardly hear anyone complain about the taste of an Early Girl up here in AK, they usually complain about the taste of other varieties though.
