Default Chocolate Sungold

This variety is at the F5 stage and is derived from the SG X CP cross. Planted seeds from a single selection at the F4 stage. Most of the F4s were extremely good, and if the F5 from this selection doesn't pan out for any reason there are alot of other potential candidates I have seed for. Goal= sungold sized cherry with exeptional flavor and chocolate color. We have this, but it is not stable yet. Some size variation and purples showing up in the F4. I sent seeds to Heirloomdady, Carolyn Male, and ?for this chocolate selection. I am Only growing Seed from the package labeled B-2 Plant#4. For those who received seed, feel free to post pics and and descriptions if you get around to growing this one this year. I started seeds today.

Vince-

Just tasted my first two. OUTSTANDING. Well done!!! I love black cherry but this crushes it in terms of depth of flavor and sweetness.

Vince, I think you'll remember that I shared with you that I didn't have the room to grow all the ones you sent me and asked which one you thought I might like best.

So it's a purple/sungold that I'm growing and it will be a couple of months, maybe less, before I get to see them and taste them and I sure am looking forward to it.

That sounds outstanding!

Any pics?

Is it a typical cherry tomato size?

I might be interested in trying it next year.

Vince, what you sent me was an F4 of what you called Vince P1 and while I didn't get any fruits here at home, another bad year here, Lee in NC did the seed production and brought some fruits to Tomatopalloza where it was liked by quite a few folks.

All to say that I'll be listing it in the experimental section of my seed offer and also noting that you did the cross and also noting that you have not yet selected a variety name for it.

I have to racically change the 2011 WORD doc but hope to get to it tomorrow and try to stay mentally alert when doing so.

The few fruit I got off of the one plant I grew were purple and the flavor very good.

So has Vince P1 now been named Chocolate Sungold?

No Tam, it has not.

Vince sent me several selections and you saw above that I asked him which of the ones he thought I could deal with b'c I can't do large growouts for anything. I chose what he called Vince P1, which is a purple selection.

He has selections from the initial cross that he says are chocolate and some that are purple. I'll be offering F5 seeds from the purple selection, not yet named, in my seed offer, hopefully up tomorrow or Monday. Craig raises my plants for me so that's why he also grew the purple selection since he had extra plants from my seeds.

Hope that helps.

At least that's the way I understand it and I'm sure Vince will correct me if I'm wrong, but I do know that no final name exists for the purple sungold or he wouldn't have sent me F4 seeds.
