Default Gladiolus? Iris? Anyone?

Hello, all. I've moved to a house with a bigger yard and a bigger garden. Of course the tomatoes and veggies have all been planned out for a long time but my landscapers are about done with the shrubs and beds. As requested, they've left me a little room here and there in the beds for some bulbs and tubers. In the fall I'll tackle the daffodils and tulips but is now the right time to plant the glads and iris? Too soon? Too late? I'm in zone 8. Also, what is a good source for bulbs and rhizomes and tubers and such? Thank you in advance! I have a lot of experience with veggies and annual flowers but this is a new adventure for me. I hope to plant some flowers that will reward me for many years to come.
