Default Truss continues to grow

How often do you see this?

The truss has a growing tip. Another truss is forming near the end.

Endless tomatoes.

My cherry tomato plants typically do that. I haven't seen it on any of the other varieties yet. But then again, I keep all the others staked and heavily pruned, whereas the cherries I cage and let them go wild.

I've never seen that before, how funny.

I've seen it frequently. Cherries, yes, but also on some beefsteaks. Big Boy comes to mind, although honestly I haven't paid that close attention to which varieties. I always prune to 1 or 2 stems, and when these end-of-truss extensions appear, I invariably miss them until they are suddenly quite large, and then I get angry and curse them for dangling in my way before I savagely remove them.

Gosh Shawn, where's the love?

And here I thought it was something very special!

My season is so short - I haven't even planted out yet, and won't for two more weeks - that those danglers will never have time to produce. They just get in the way, so off they come, lest they trip me up.
I am not really as angry as I guess that made me sound. I just worded it that way for effect. I really love my garden, and especially my tomatoes. Honest!

I see it every so often, my Giant Syrian did it like crazy last year.

My Tarasenko-6 is doing that right now along with one or two others. The first time I saw this I didn't know what to do and let it keep growing and it made a big droopy mess. Now I just cut off the growth tip.

Rick, how is that endless truss tomato coming along? We're due for some rain tomorrow, so that will be something we haven't seen here for a while. I'm worried that it will exacerbate some of the fungal issues I've been having on my un-grafted varieties. BTW, do you live in Sacramento proper or in one of it's many suburbs? I used to live in East Sac near the rail-road on Elvas (before that midtown McKinley and Land Park), but I'm not off in the suburbs.
Take care.

Vegetative growth off the end of the fruit truss typically indicates excess nitrogen. I pinch or cut off the excess growth. I see it on both cherries and beefsteak types. Not uncommon in my greenhouse.

Naysen,

The truss on the red Furry is still growing a bit, but I just checked and the second set of blossoms may drop. I am in Carmichael-not terribly far from you.

A little rain should not be a problem if the sun comes out afterward. I did hedge my bet by spraying daconil this weekend
