2013 New Garden
Last year I did a small 15' X 18' garden and used plastic mulch. Wasnt to happy with the plastic mulch still getting a lot of weeds in between the rows.
Here is a picture of last years garden This year I decided to make the garden much bigger..30'X40' and make it a weed free garden (if possible..lol) I started in the spring removing the sod (Next time I will hired a guy with a bobcat!) I decided on using garden mats this year instead of the plastic mulch. I also put drips lines in under the mats to cut back on watering time this year. Around the edges of the mats I'm using a landscape fabric which I will cover with grass clippings. Here are a few pictures: I'm using a 3 ft vinyl fence just to keep out my Lab. He loves Peppers. Here is my list of plants which I started many of them in greenhouse I put up in Feb. Peppers (6 different types) Green Beans (3 varieties) Peas (Snap and Bush) Lettuce (2 varieties) Onions (2 varieties) Radishes Egg Plant Broccoli Cucumbers Zucchini Yellow Squash Tomatoes (Oxheart,Kosovo,Grape, and a few different varieties) Have everything planted just need to stake the Tomatoes and put up a trellis for the Sugar Snap Peas. Also have to put the grass mulch around the perimeter. Hopefully I wont have much weeding to do this year..... Last edited by Wds83; May 28, 2013 at 08:03 PM. |

Very nice space. How are you going to make it "weed free"?

What a deal on that greenhouse! It looks like you're hitting the ground running this year.

What is the green fabric made of and how did you cut all those nice and neat looking holes in it?

Thank you everyone for the compliments.
Its a polypropylene fabric. It comes in 8 different hole patterns for a variety of vegetables. Its 4ft wide and comes in 3 lenghts (6 ft 12 ft 18 ft) |

I can tell you don't like weeding!
I've never seen that type of pre-holed fabric before. Does it have a brand name? Were you able to get it locally? Please post some more pictures as your garden grows, and let us know how it works out for you.
