Default May 14th Two Ripe Tomatoes

My first tomato was ripe on Sunday May 12th, it was a Black Prince, it had a black spot on it, so, I didn't take a picture of it. It was a little pithy but still tasty none the less. Today I went out and found two more tomatoes that looked ripe.
First one is a Nyagous and the second one is Sungella. Haven't picked them yet waiting to show off to my wife. I will let you know if they are any good tomorrow.

By the way last year my first tomato was in June or July, this year I followed Raybo's planting time frame of March 1st and boy am I glad I did! Thanks!

Here are the photo's of the ripe ones as well as some bonus shots:

Nyagous

Sungella

Tiger-Like top one almost ripe

Galina

Blue Fruit

Sunray and MR. Brown

Tiger-Like

Dolly Parton at least that is what the label said, anyone know if it is suppose to be a heart?

Black Beauty

Snow White Cherry

Sun Gold doing good

Sungella same plant as above but bottom cluster not shown in the picture, which means this plant is prolific!

Brandywine almost 6 feet tall

Black Cherry and Danko

Cherokee Purple

Black Krim

Thanks for viewing,

- Scott

Virtex,

For the good advice, the "rule" is that you have to send me your first ripe fruit. I'll email you my shipping address momentarily.

Sounds fair Raybo you do know your bay area weather. "I would" like to exchange some tomatoes with you at some point in the season. I am interested in tasting some of yours varieties for next years garden. You seem to have some yearly favorites that probably should be in my garden.

Here is my pinterest page with pics of what I am growing:

Let me know if your interested, June or July I will have tons extra, just me, my wife and 50 plants

Once again thanks for the timing, we have certainly had some great weather for tomatoes so far this year.

Update:

Nyagous had amazing flavor, I loved it! Based on this first tomato I will plant again next year.

Sungella kinda boring, hoping it was just because it was the first or was too small. The other fruit are 2x as big.

My tiger-like should be ready to pick tomorrow or the next day. Isn't it funny how I wait for the first tomatoes of the season...then let some rot on the vine mid to end season and think nothing of it. I guess its the supply and demand theory in action.

Thanks for reading, may your garden grow big and tasty,

- Scott

Scott I can't remember when the first ripe tomato of the season didn't have amazing flavor. After months of those tasteless things from the grocery store the worst variety in the garden is a taste sensation.

Your plants look great, keep up the good work.

I have a real decent size Silvery Fir Tree waiting for tacos tonight. Other than that, just some cherries, a Black and Brown Boar, and a couple of Taxi's. I got real sick in March so most of my plant outs ran quite late. Your garden looks great Virtex!

Scott,

Congratulations on your first ripe tomatoes. They look gorgeous!! Where abouts in California are you located? Also, if you've pruned this extensively in the past, have you ever had a problem with sunscald?

Thanks!

Anne,

Thanks it was fun to see them this early.

I live in San Jose. This was my first year pruning/removing growing tips, which I mainly did cause my plants were wilting and I wanted to see if that would fix them. I probably won't have issues with sun scald cause they have already suckered and have covered my tomatoes with new growth. The wilt has gone away, pretty sure they grew too fast and the roots needed time to catch up.

Beautiful stuff. You sure have a bunch of containers. Are some of those Earthtainers?

Thank you!

Yes, I built 6 Earthtainers last year and 12 this year. I bought 12+ fabric pots this year. The rest of my stuff is in plastic pots from the drug store.

Here watch me walk around my garden:

Very nice garden! What kind of soil do you put in your fabric pots?
