Default Burpee introducing a "Seed-Less" tomato hybrid

Wouldn't you know??? And being the eternal pessimist I am, I m sure it will compare to "seeded" varieties (both hybrid and heirloom) about as well as the seedless watermelons compare in taste to seeded varieties.

Even I, who grows tomatoes almost solely for drying, am not quite so lazy that I would resort to a blah, engineered tomato simply because it had no seeds.

Are we now a nation of "spit-less" wonders who cannot countenance the feel of seeds in our mouth? Will we do ANYTHING to avoid the horror ( ) of seeds???

This kind of thing get me on a rant...I am currently bemoaning the sale of equine clones...the hyper-ovulation of mares to produce numerous viable follicles that will produce numerous eggs to remove and fertilize...the removal of 15 to 20 fertilized eggs and the placement of eggs in "recipient" mares...this is all about greed.

I am of the opinion that

just because you can, does not mean you should
and this vegetable engineering purely for aesthetics irritates the living crapola out of me. This is not done to increase production or to develop disease hardiness or plants that need less water and nutrients...
This was done to decrease spitting...a lofty and noble ideal.

There are several threads here about the Burpee seedless tomato, which isn't, but I don't have the time to look for the thread with the cut sections showing seeds.

Here's the link I came up with, and this seedless one was introduced several years ago as you can see from the dates in this thread:

Okay Carolyn but it still stinks! I am behind on reading threads. I should have known you would know...In Mexico, all they are growing now are seedless watermelon commercially and my friends in CA say the same for there. My best friend says she drives 35 miles to buy seeded watermelon from a farm stand because the seedless lack taste (I do not eat watermelon, seeded or otherwise.) Glad you are feeling better too.

I have some seeds I saved from the Burpee Seedless hybrid two summers ago, if you want to grow them out, but I wouldn't really go to the bother.
