I too am surprised that only 30 participants sent in mailers, but there are actually many more participants behind the scenes. I'm in touch with other people on the forum that aren't vocal in participating plus several local gardeners, and will send them seeds or possibly have a meet up.

I was wondering about the current availability of the hybrid seeds from last year. Are there any varieties still available? Only the orange slicer and of course the cherries really knocked me out, but I like to in slip some familiar beefsteaks for my friends "just in case" the hybrids aren't having a great year. (Hybrids performed terrible last year and I was able to give some tasty tomatoes to neighbors!)

Hybrids are found at post #67.

I am voluntarily not participating this year. I had a bad case of bacterial spot which essentially wiped out all 50 of my plants. I was able to save seeds from most of them, but since bacterial spot is definitely transmitted through infected seed I'm going to spare you all from the risk. I read that when commercial farms are infected the farmers just plow them under rather than attempting to treat. Next year I will be heat treating my seeds before planting (submerge seed in 122 degree water for 25 minutes). Hopefully I'll be back in the game next year!

I am running behind, but I do have seeds that need to be packed up too. It sounds like I have a chance to join again this year too. I'll work on that over Thanksgiving weekend, and get it shipped out ASAP. Thank you for all that you do Tormato!

What a great name and heritage for your town, Mandy! Looked it up and your area is also a producer of grapes. I hope you get to enjoy the local fruits.

Have fun packing this holiday!

I saw that post some time ago, and it looks like there are still opportunities for those just coming aboard on the swap to purchase hybrid seeds too.

About 10 more packages have arrived this week, with more to come. So, we're up to about 40 participants.

Another (very) long weekend, which means I might be able to post the list of non-tomato seeds here, and a list of all tomato varieties at the spoiler thread, early next week. Likely after I post the list, some more packages will arrive. So, I'll then have to post additions.

Tormato, I was thinking about another way to participate. Feed and seed stores sell varieties of tomato seeds. They might not be the latest greatest varieties, but some of our favorites come from a century ago.

Red Pear is one from the 1700s or before.

"Oldies But Goodies" is one of the categories, but may not have been mentioned this year.

It would be great to have enough different Oldies to make a category this year; I sent in an Oldie variety.
