You are right-no blush at all. Didnt taste the Tastywine or Blazing Beauty. They were way too ripe to get a good idea of, and I wanted to save as much seed as possible. Tastywine didnt have much seed, Blazing Beauty much more. Saved seed and will send to Craig tomorrow. We had snow last week and temps in the greenhouse probably got down to 45 degrees or so, but the best of all the ones tasted last night was Rosella Purple. Absolutely great!

Over the Christmas Holidays, we had snow and temperatures down to 20 f, 6.6 c for several days. Hence, my greenhouse heater could not keep the temps up-so the fruit got mushy, like someone left them in the refrigerator for several days. They still had good flavor, but I know that that the flavor and texture of the fruit was seriously affected by the cold. Craig-we did taste the purple Tastywine last night and it was good. I am going to save seed from the next fruit and send on to you.

Photo of Dwarf Caitydid sliced up yesterday, 1/6/12. A little mushy from the cold, but excellent taste.

You got that right! Here is a great looking dwarf wild fred I just picked today, 1/7/11-going to have it for lunch with a summertime gold. Fred is 3 3/4 oz.

I've read they don't taste as good as many of the other dwarfs of it's generation (Mr. Snow, Summertime Green/Gold, Beryl Beauty, etc.). Would you agree with that assessment, or if you don't care to state taste in absolutes, how would you characterize that tomato? I have one about the same size growing in an InnTainer.
Thanks, Naysen |
