I agree NWG, They (Johnny's) have some excellent varieties at a reasonable cost, but the shipping charge on a small order discourages me from random ordering.

Parks uses regular mail for seeds and ups for larger packages in the US.

If you are near a wally world or similar discount store, blanket flower seeds are in the 20 cent packs. So is a type of multicolored zinnia. Btw blanket flower are very short lived perennials, for me 1-3 years. Pak Choi is rather easy to find locally on the cheap too. At lest you can get started right away if you buy the common ones locally.

With the lack of the ability to garden last year...I may have gone a tiny bit overboard with the plans.

It's a good thing we like our veggies right?

Two years ago I ordered from Park 1st and they were the last to arrive by a couple of weeks. I did not order from them last year, but decided to try them again this year since I am sowing earlier. They arrived in 3 days!

Yesterday I planted herbs into cell trays that I bought at Dollar Tree. They are sold be American Seeds (The same company that sells the 20 cent seed packs) Pictured compared to the 72 cell tray. These little trays have 12 cells and are very convenient and easy to make room for.

I planted 6 cells each of:

Basil - Sweet
Catnip
Cilantro
Chives
Dill - Long Island Mammoth
Oregano
Sage - Broad Leaf
Thyme - Common
And 12 cells of Rosemary - Rosemarinus Officinalis

Those trays are pretty nice for only being a $1!

Good to know! I bought them on a whim, kinda disappointed with the top crop green beans. Top crops flavor was just...blah. We liked provider which really lives up to its name! But it had this strange furry feel on the tongue.

Grew dragon tongue beans and no one would eat them besides me... they would not taste the red corn either so strange colored foods are off the buy list for a few more years or so.

Pssssst! Go to the dollar stores at the end of summer and get gardening stuff marked down 90%. They mark it all down to make room for school supplies. Scout out all the dollar stores in your area a few weeks before to see who has what. Seeds for 2-5 cents a pack!

Most years, I make lists of seeds to buy, let the lists simmer for a while, look at all the seeds I have, and then decide I don’t need to buy more. Or at least order from only one catalog!

This year I have been lured by Baker Creek’s free shipping and interesting varieties to make a list from their catalog. I got the catalog at the heirloom festival in September, which was a great place to find seed I’d wanted for a long time (many vendors) as well as seed I didn’t know I needed— plus a bunch of impulse purchases! I spent $50 there and bought only seed, not any other garden tchotchkes.

I make a list of all the seeds I need to buy, then buy them. I then realize I forgot one, so I buy it and maybe some others at the same store. Then I realize I forgot another one, etc., repeat. Baker Creek alone got 4 orders from me this winter because of this (plus they gave me free shipping for 6 mos.).

Lol, that is exactly what I do most years. I think of it as a feature, not a bug.

Oh Nan and Jane, I thought it was just me! I'm feeling embarrassed that I made two orders at BK for myself, and one for a friend. Thank goodness for free shipping!
