Multiflora?
My question is how many flowers to expect on Rose Quartz compared to Rose Quartz Multiflora.
I was checking out my RQ yesterday and noticed it has the beginnings of its first truss of flowers. I could count 15-20 buds on the one truss (still extremely tiny) so I'm thinking I may have the multiflora. My source of seed was unsure as to which one was sent to me, so what do yall think? I've never grown RQ or RQM so have no idea what to expect. RIK |

Someone correct me If I am wrong but I thought Rose Quartz was a hybrid and Multiflora was not? So if you got a trade, my guess is you have a Multiflora.

Hi RIK,
It sounds like you have rose quartz. Rose quartz multiflora literally has hundreds of blossoms, all on one single stem. I'll try tp post a picture later.

Hmm?

So I did receive the seed in a trad, and I feel like the person who sent me seed would have known if he was sending me F2 hybrid seeds. The flower truss is still very, very small so maybe another 80 or so buds will develope under the 20 I can see now. I would have taken a picture, but have not had good light due to the weather. I'm not sure I could get close enough to take a good pic any way. RIK |

RIK,
If you got the seed from me I may have gotten them from Little_Rhody. To lazy right now to do a search. :-) I haven't had a chance to grow it yet. |

I didn't want to throw your name out there without asking you first. I ment to e-mail you but just haven't gotten to it. Don't bother with a search. I'll let you know what we've got in a couple of weeks. (hopefully will have time to post a pic this weekend) RIK |

Finally
I have had some technical difficulty with my computer at home or would have had these posted sooner.
This is a pic of my mystery Rose Quartz (multifloral?) taken one week ago: And here it is just yesterday (looking a little more multifloral ): |

It's got to be Multi
OK, last post.
Just took a pic of the flower cluster this morning and I think it has to be multifloral. If it's not, I couldn't imagine what is! |

Thoes pictures are super cool. I can only imagine how many dried cherry tomatoes you could make with that plant. Angelique |

Glad to see this topic - hoping somebody (Little Rhody?) can chime in...
Last year I had trade seeds for RQM (I THINK from Fusion, but my record keeping is for crap ) I got 2 different plants from those seeds - one which was a rather nondescript red cherry of normal size and truss, and the other which was multiflora, with slightly smaller, Reisentraubeish-shaped tomatoes that tased great! Is there any instablity in RQM or am I way off base? Could be a cross? In any case - I LOVED the multiflora one - but of course in the craziness I was in at the end of the season, the bowl of them that I had to process for seed quietly rotted to nothing and was, ahem, thrown away when too many fruit flies congregated. So no RQM for me this year, but I'd sure love some for next! Mike |

Hi Mike,
RQM appeared inmy garden in 2002, one of four plants of rose quartz had this multiflora gene. I saved seeds and have grow it out every year. In 2004 (my 2003 seed) I had one red multiflora plant. I have distributed seeds to those who have asked me for them. I have seen some reports on the garden web and here of some instability or crossing. I do not bag blossoms, but my luck with it has been pretty good. I 'm growing it again this year and will be happy to send you some seed.
