Oh yes, the potential garden layouts on graph paper, re-revising the grow list, discovering you need to place yet another seed order, figuring out how you're going to fit all those seedlings on your grow table, working up the planting timetable, figuring out how many days of "unseasonably warm weather" you'll need to complete the garden prep...
I agree with Karen O about overwintering micros on the grow table. Karen, I'll see your micros and raise you fried green tomatoes from slices in the freezer! Nan |

To be honest I was actually enjoying the Winter "Lull" after holidays and had already done my seed procurement in December..... Seed procurement that if I never added anymore new varieties ....I would still have lots of varieties to try ..next year . It is a little more telling that I poked my head out the door Jan.15th and heard very loud A.M ."birdsong" all the peeping and cheeping let me know we are over the worst of it for winter on the Island . I always wait till February to get to busy ... but the prep. still goes on. Best of Luck to ALL and the Dream and the Prep. ....AND the gardening 2018 !

WInter is still building here--coldest weather yet to arrive, end of January into February. Next week a heat wave is due! In the 40's
While I have bought most of my seed, I do have one last buy in the works. FInal list not complete yet. Looking at other items to support growing: hoops, row covers, plant labels, oh so many items to acquire for a successful year. ANd learn pest management! First seeds started--onion. lol No flats in stores yet----need them NOW, lol. Indoor green house needs to be set up asap--another storm rolling in tomorrow is interfering!!!! Storms go away! |

I calculate there are 18 tomato plants in that Victory garden, for a family of 5.

2 25 foot rows of tomatoes should give you quite a few
KarenO I love the vintage posters. I don’t like that world war was the inspiration though |

My fall tomatoes ended with an unusual freeze just after Christmas but I picked lots of green ones and they are ripening on the counter. I planted my spring tomatoes on January 15th so they will be ready to plant out at the of February. But I always have some micro tomatoes from Bunnyhop seeds growing to fill in the gaps. My dream is to never have to buy a tomato at the grocery store. I am not quiet there but getting closer.
