Found something interesting inside my cold frame this morning. I was worried last few days cold temperatures and snow outside will do harm to my tomatoes, scared of frost. But, I found this:
Is it normal for this variety to already make blossoms on this size? I thought it must grow bigger. Still early for transplant in garden.

That's awesome! I showed a cow at the fair a video game on my Kindle Fire, once—it looked very interested.

Here is my first attempt at tomato seedling photography. Please be kind
Forgot to mention - seedlings are about 6-8 weeks along. The bigger ones just finished up a 2 week stint in a ~50 degree garage. The rest sit in the 60's. Last edited by throwaway; April 22, 2017 at 01:36 PM. |

hiya throwaway, nice looking seedlings.
You got ample drain holes cut in those cups? I like slits or holes low on the sides in addition to directly on the bottom, then they'll drain no matter what surface they're on? Also, I think I'm seeing a nice mix of coco/peat, but I'm not seeing much if any perlite? I like perlite at 25%-35% and believe porosity makes it much easier to ward off many of the over-watering complications. ie: damping off, mold, leaf curl I'm Ricky Shaw, and I'm porosity obsessed. |

Thanks all!
@Ricky - I drilled 4 (couldn't tell you size) holes equidistant on the bottoms. Thought about the sides too late for this go around. Will add that next time. Coco indeed - I had a big block of Kempf Compressed Coco Fiber and decided to tempt fate and save on seed starting mix. There is probably 5% vermiculite and definitively no perlite. I let the top of the material turn light brown before watering, and always from the bottom. The tomatoes have been tough buggers, but my cauliflower is having a terrible time. Had my first suspected damping off of a pepper plant today and my second wave of germination in this mix has been terrible. Lessons learned. |

My seedlings sown March 19 th. are ready to go out into the cold earth in the unheated tunnel houses. They must however wait for May 1st Labor day!
