Seedy Birds
Hey, quick question. I just picked three Yamal tomatoes. They started blushing about 3 or 4 days ago. They are about 60 to 70% full ripe with plenty of color. I picked them because the birds wouldn't let them ripen 100% for me and pecked them up. One bad, another a few pecks and the third minor pecking. So I would like to at least use these for seed saving. At what ripening stage do fruit contain viable seed? Should I set them on a table another day or two to increase ripening or will the holes in the fruit be problematic in any way? TIA!

Should be ok. I would let them get to where they look and feel ripe,
ignoring the holes from the bird pecks. (You could put a little dab of something on the holes to seal them up until they are completely ripe. Pie dough, caulk, duct tape, whatever.) Some people make the effort to save seeds from green, unripe fruit when cross-breeding, etc, but it is a chore to separate them from the seed gel, and germination is usually low.
