Black Russian vs Russian Black
I assume there is a difference. Went to nursery today and they had what the marker called black tomatoes. Asked the worker she said the packing list called them black russian imported. Now after looking at Tatiana's site I am wondering if it is really black russian or Russian black. Anyone have info from growing these as what to look for?

My notes indicate:
Black Russian green/yellow base colour, medium, round, black, indeterminate. 69-75 days. This an old Russian heirloom and not to be confused with "Russian Black" which is a beefsteak variety.

I grew them both 1 year. 1 was bigger and the shapes were different. I was unimpressed by the performance in my garden. They taste like black tomatoes. I think that pretty much sums it up.

Thanks well see which one I get. I have never grown or eaten a black so I know each person has a different opinion but what is the taste of a black like to you (and others).
Thanks |

They usually taste great to me. A few of the best tasting
tomatoes I have had have been dark tomatoes, and I can not remember any spitters. Some are very sweet, some have a kind of complex, earthy flavor, and one (Brad's Black Heart) tasted like it already had smoked bacon flavor added (if you need a tomato for a no-bacon vegetarian BLT, this is the one).

BBH is the best black tomato I've eaten. Oxheart tomatoes, in general, have superior flavor for some reason. My favorite red is Wes, an oxheart.

Great I have a BBH that is fruiting right now. I just have to be patient and wait for it to grow for me! I have eaten black krim and I love them! They make a great tomato sauce. I have added more black toamtoes to my arsenal this year so I will be better to answer this after I have tried them.
