Migration is in full swing here. There are 25 to 30 birds in the yard today.

I saw *one* yesterday. She buzzed into the garden and investigated the zinnias I was deadheading. The feeder's still up but it doesn't look like anyone's using it.

I couldn't find any black swallowtail caterpillars in the parsley this morning. They had gotten pretty big and fat! As I was wondering where they all went, Pickles came out and after a moment she pointed at something in the parsley window box and said, "What's that?" Lo AND behold, it was a chrysalis! It's about an inch long.

A bit later I decided to give what was left of each parsley plant a good inspection and found one more. I'm guessing it's brown because it's a bit older.

So where did the others go? For them it would be a long crawl down the table legs to the porch and then over the edge and down to the shrubs in front.

The parsley is all twiggy stems so those will get cut except the ones holding a chrysalis. At least they didn't munch everything down to the crown again. The parsley will be back. Can't wait to watch the progress of all this!

Oh, and there was a walking stick on the kitchen screen door. The body is about 5" long. Fall's coming. It's the only time I see them and wheel bugs, which are also out and about.

This morning there were a bunch of Gulf Fritillarys in the zinnias and marigolds. Then I saw one that looked a bit different, not quite as pretty, a bit more subdued. It turns out to be the Variegated Fratillary. Couldn't get a side shot.

I saw hummers and monarch butterflies and caterpillars at our cottage 3 hours north of here last weekend. But at the community garden yesterday I saw this guy munching on my carrots. I felt very fortunate because I usually only see monarch caterpillars.

Black Swallowtail! They love the carrot family of plants. Sure munched my parsley a good bit!

I get very few fruits, although I helped pollination along by transferring the pollen to the pistils with a small brush.

Beautiful flowers. Passiflora is so, well, intricate is the closest word I can think of right now. Is your variety edible and if so, what does it taste like?
