Default 2011 tomatoes started

I've got two beds of tomatoes started with onions running down the center of both beds. I started tying the taller plants to the trellis after taking these pictures. As you can see I have a few seedlings left to plant to get all 100 varieties I am going to plant this year.

Does anyone need some fresh oregano? Don't think I will be able to use this much. This stuff grows and spreads like a ground cover and is really hard to control. I put out a tiny bunch of it last year and it is now about 8 feet by 4 feet in one of my beds.

Looking good Bill. Looks like you will need to make a ton
Of Spaghetti Sauce to use up all of that Oregano.
Have you planted your Big Buck okra yet??

The Becks is about 3 inches tall in egg cartons and now has true leaves so I will be moving it into individual coffee cups until it is at least 10 inches tall and then put it in the garden.

looking good. Everyone needs a little wiener in the garden to keep things straight.

I planted my Becks last night and since we don't have karate class tonight I may start my melons and
Cantaloupes when I get home.

Darlene the dog is a miniature dachshund and we have two more that are piebalds and they are really cute. I also have 3 larger dogs but they are kept out of the garden by the electric fence which the dachshunds just stroll under. Our son has offered us another miniature and I'm afraid we will end up taking it in also. We are becoming dog hoarders. They are a lot of fun and company; but they are really hard on the poor yard. But how much affection does grass give one?

miniature dachshunds are quite entertaining, I've got a miniature wire-haired and she gets in to everything (and on occasion, under the fence and out into the neighborhood)

You'll have to post pics of the others sometime-I'll bet they're adorable!
I guess there are worst things than being a pet hoarder-we're cat
hoarders. We know people with the long-haired (wire-haired?) and
they're beauties, too. Would love to have one if it weren't for all of
my kitties-they'd be so jealous.

B54 - a couple of questions...

When did you start your onions? They are huge!

I'm interested in your interplanting of the onions and tomatoes. Obviously, the tomatoes will shade-out the onions eventually - will the onions be sufficiently mature by that time that it won't matter?

Bill, everything is looking great! Yes, oregano does spread quickly..I planted some at the old homestead about ten years ago and it spread and grows right along with the grass now...Smells great when the grass is cut..I use a lot of fresh oregano to cook with, then in the fall I like to dry it and hang it in bunches..

Forty, I started the onion seed last September and put out the onions the last week of January.
My onions are already forming some nice bulbs and will have time to finish developing before they are shaded out. They will be sending up seed stalks very soon signaling the beginning of the end for onions. I tried this method last year and a friend of mine planted the same kind on the same day except they were on their on away from other plants. I was shocked that mine actually did better than his even though they were between two rows of tomatoes. I used to use a bed for onions only but got tired of waiting for them to finish. I ended up planting too many tomatoes too late so I adapted.

Darlene I could not handle having cats. I once had a neighbor who owned several cats and they kept leaving some nasty surprises for me in the garden. For a couple of years I was reluctant to get my hands dirty because sometimes they got really really dirty. If you know what I mean and I'm sure you do if you have a bunch of cats.
