I'm proud to say that I don't see anything unusual here. Southern Fried Okra instead of potatoes is something I grew up with. When we freeze the cut up okra, we do some in a breading just for such occasions. We have a lot of "non-standard" items on our menu for breakfasts. Great looking plate there.

I'm new to growing Okra, 2nd year.
Any tips on freezing the Okra?
Does it freeze well?

Yes, it does. We cut the pods up into the discs for fried okra and put them into ziplocks. Squeeze out all the air you can and stick in the freezer. I've had some last well into the second year. They will also do well in the Tupperware-type containers if you coat them in flour or cornmeal. Wait until cooking time to add any salt or pepper or whatever.

BTW, the pods you harvest that are large and tough can be dehydrated and then made into a powder to add to all kinds of recipes. A cheap coffee grinder will make the job really easy. My nephews and their kids like to take whole pods and put them on the grill.

I've tried several different varieties of okra. Most were pretty good, but Clemson Spineless has always been a workhorse here.

Very nice, glad you stuck with it a second year. I have not seen any flowers yet, but I'm not over there in the morning. It did not get hot and really start growing here until two weeks back.

I just read a story that chocolate cake for breakfast is good for increasing brain activity and reduces the waistline. Of course it was on-line so it has to be true. Let me see...chocolate cake or okra? Would it even be close?

My first year growing okra. I'm growing Bush Cowhorn and Choppee. I've eaten it grilled on the grill, baked, and okra & tomatoes. I didn't like the oven baked very much because it seemed to make the ribs tougher. The ribs on the choppee became more tender on the grill and cooked with tomatos. My next dish will be slimy boiled okra. I used to love it so I need to see if it as good as I once thought it was.

I don't think I've ever eaten okra, at least knowingly. I'm pretty sure I only first heard about it when I found this forum in like 2012 .


So I don't even know if I'll like the taste/texture, but I like the look of the plant anyway so I've just ordered some "Baby Bubba" seeds and I'll experiment with growing these indoors (probably with extra light) in containers over winter and maybe I'll try them outdoors in the ground next year.

Your okra looks delicious and why not breakfast? I'm gonna try that. What is the yellow stuff between your eggs and tomato?

lol, thats the leftover egg I used for breading the Okra, I just tossed in some chives for good measure!
