transporting four feet tall plants, in a closed vehicle, like UHaul, is a piece of cake. Just make sure that they wont fall when accelerating or braking.

Yup. Covered wagon. Done it many times. Short drives with big trees I just putter down the higway going 10 mph w/ hazards on - making everyone mad as a hornet, LOL.

In a covered truck, as worth said, just be sure they are secured well and not a problem. Good luck and happy moving ( is there such a thing as "happy moving"???!!)!

I do know it's possible -- I've transported lots and lots of plants over the years. I just wondered if tomato branches would start to self-destruct...

I will have plants in big pots with smaller stuff tucked inside, as well as smaller plants on top of boxes of plants. I'm good at packing so that stuff stays put and makes best use of space! And I have to take all the compost I've been making this year that I haven't used yet, plus bags of good soil, etc. Although it's only 100 miles, it goes through urban areas where rush hour is almost all day (which is a big part of the reason we're moving away!), and it's taken as long as 4 hours to get through it all.

I'm thinking about the cost of uhauls -- it adds up. For under $500 I could rent a van for a week and make 3 round trips. I could fit all of my largest pots in one vanload, then use the other 2 trips for books, and take whatever's left of the smaller plants in my car.

I'd hold back on watering for a day or two before the move, large pots would be much lighter.
