I did some pickling today, as we have too many cucumbers, and they keep coming.
The white cukes are the best for pickling, as they do not change color.

Today's salad. It was so delicious - it is obvious that we missed our lovely tomatoes so much since the last year!

The large purple black tomato is a Russian variety 'Siniy'. It was just a bit over 1 lb, and it was the first very large tomato ripened in our garden this year.
The second large one was picked yesterday, and it was Tsar-Kolorol, 18 oz.

Ella,
The taste was great (but keep in mind, this was one of the first ripe tomatoes we had, and we are not spoiled yet for 2013 ). Production is very good, the plants are loaded with fruit, but nothing close to ripe yet. We have not cut Tsar-Kolokol yet. Larisa is also turning color, it won't be long now! Tatiana

D., I don't know how you managed to get a ripe eggplant (no matter what I do, I can't get mine to bear any fruit yet )
But I picked quite a few ripe tomatoes today, and a beautiful Hungarian pepper called Karmen. It was huge! The large pinks are Mr. Hart Pink, red round cherries (top left) are Knopka (these plants are producing loads!), the small red oval shaped is Detskiy Smak, the greens are Lime Salad Green, blacks are Svart and Black Prince, 2 round red striped (bottom right) are Csikos Botermo, flattened cherries (top right) are Tocan, and a couple of Orange-1 under Mr. Hart Pink. I left the large Larisa on the vine, hopefully no one picks or samples it before me!

Well done Tania, everything looks amazing!! Your tomatoes are way ahead of mine, i have some that will be ripe enough to pick in the next couple of weeks, and then there are plants that have tons of flowers on them, so it should be a great Fall harvest!!
Will the Siniy be available for seeds later this year? |

Penny,
Thank you! I planted out record early this spring, and since the weather was amazingly dry and warm here in PNW, this is why the tomatoes and peppers are ripening so early this year. Siniy will definitely be available, probably in August-September. I already saved about 200+ seeds, and if everything goes well, we should be able to collect many more seeds. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Excellent, i am really curious to try that one, so once the seeds are available, I'll be ordering again.
