Default Cucumber

I have eight beautiful cucumber plants with tons of blossoms, unfortunately not a lot of cucumbers. Am I doing something wrong?

Have they just started blooming? Many times, the male blossoms come first; female blossoms have a teeny fruit with them, males do not.

Heat may also be a factor, or pollination.

Do you have pollinators like bees?

I had loads of cukes(National Pickling Cucumbers)......then the heat struck late May.Now I have plenty of blooms but only get 3-4 cukes a day off a dozen plants.Looks like the grandkids won't be enjoying Poppas pickles this fall.

Well, you're close enough to me, the heat is stopping pollination now. I imagine you are also pretty dry, too.

Only plant parthenocarpic varieties. Every flower makes a cuke.

Try a parthenocarpic variety and elimate the worry about pollination. (Edit, big van posted the same as I was typing and is right on)
It’s benn getting to 100 in my high tunnel this week. And I am still picking fruit every day nonstop.
I am growing Socrates and Corinto and the production has been enormous.
Every node bears a fruit. I will say you have to keep them fed and watered to achieve this.
I have some Max Pik pickles loading up now that I started later than the slicers.
My mom made pickle spears and rings with the Socrates and they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Makes me wonder why I even needed to grow a pickling type cuke.

I'm growing Coronito as my second planting. Glad to hear they are productive.

Oh my gosh do I have bees! The noise in the garden from them is a low “hum”.

Good to hear that you have bees. Are you getting female blossoms?

I am growing three types of cucumbers and my best variety in terms of size and flowers is the worse in terms of production because the flowers are all male flowers.

This is the first year I’ve planted all of one kind “straight eights”. Perhaps the other type were faster producers. I’ve planted “county fair” seeds and then a few straight eight plants in the past.

This may be a stupid question but how do I tell a male blossom from a female blossom?

Sweet Success is a Cucumber Machine. 2 plants - average 2-4 cukes a day - 11" long, Poona Khera also does well as does Diva. Still setting 1 or 2 per plant a day and its been over 97 for 3 weeks.

They have a wee little baby cucumber on them.

The female is on the right in this pictuer.

No it is not a stupid question and you are not the first nor will you be the last to ask it.
