This isn't an answer, but I had Sun Sugar plants do the same thing a couple of years ago. I also notice the upper leaves in the first picture have dark sections on them. I had a Sun Sugar plant that looked like that this year. The plant was not growing right, so I replaced it with a Brad's Atomic Grape. The other Sun Sugar plant is growing and looking fine.

The Sun Sugar plants I planted a couple years ago - I started myself from seed. The two this year were bought as transplants at a local nursery. It could be a genetic type thing? I don't know?
