Default Window Box, not Window Box Roma

Jenifer was kind enough to send this variety to me. Its different from the TGS window box roma, which I have never grown. Its 24 inches tall and is full of fruit-two have turned red recently, and I am waiting for them to vine-ripen before I try them. Nice dwarf plant that is going to produce loads of tomatoes for the size. Its in a 5 gallon bucket and I am using Epoma Tomato Tone as the fert, with occasional soil drench with Monty's Joy Juice 2-15-15.

What a relief to hear it should be a different variety than Window Box Roma...I grew Window Box Roma two years ago and can still remember how bad they tasted...and I like Romas...I can't wait to hear the taste verdict....

One other detail perhaps worth noting:
Window Box Roma is an F1 Hybrid,
whereas Window Box is an OP.

Looking forward to hearing about your dwarf season, Michael, as mine was a bust.

Best,
Jennifer

Good call on the hybrid detail....I had forgotten that part . Window Box Roma had been a spur of the moment purchase from a nursery, late in the spring. It was the most incredibly green, thick, strong plant I had seen...I hadn't started growong my own dwarfs yet.....The plant was not overly productive either....Thank goodness for that....

Jenifer-Hope you are doing well. I am waiting for more of the varieties to produce ripe fruit-all of them have fruited, some a lot more than others-mini-rose from you is just starting to turn color. I will report on these varieties. All the best.

The greenhouse gave me a nice Christmas present today-5 Window Box, the largest about 3.5 oz. This variety is great for containers and the fruit is very good.

For those of you that don't speak Spanish, the Christmas Eve menu is:

Pavo- Roast Turkey
Relleno/Gravy-Dressing and Gravy
Ejotes-Green Beans (in this case with olive oil and sliced tomatoes)
Chile con Queso-Green chile with melted cheese
Empanadas-Beef, Chicken and Cheese pies (Argentinian style)
Tamales
Gelatina-Jello
Pastel-cake.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to all! Hopefully 2007 will bring more peace to this world.

Hi Michael,

That is a wonderful menu. DH and I can be there in a couple of hours if there are still flights available. J/K.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Cheers,

Thanks, Michael!!!!

Think Window Box was originally known as Long Island Dwarf. Will check that out and trial/report back.

Jennifer, making mental note to schedule stopover in El Paso before heading off to rendezvous again with Patrina in 2008. I can smell your Rosa's wonderful cooking up all the way up here!!! Lucky you!!
