Mozark,mosage, mo suprise
Years ago (2013) I had some seeds given to me from a gentleman in Alabama i believe that were heirlooms from Dr. Victor Lambeth University of Missouri named Mozark or Mosage. Does anyone have any info on this old variety that may have seeds for sale? I believe it was a cross between Super Sioux and Bison maybe? I also have some old seeds I plant from my grandpas tomatoes, PL, indeterminate, BIG fruit, grown in the Ozark Mountains of southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. Thank you

Bill Jeffers had Mozark about 10 years ago. I don't know if he still has them. I don't know anyone else who might have them though he sent seed to a few people here.
"Mozark - Breeder and vendor: Missouri Agric. Expt. Sta., Columbia. Parentage: Earliana, Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium, Break-O-Day, Bison, Greater Baltimore. Characteristics: early, concentrated set, uniform ripening, heat tolerant, some resistance to cracking; determinate vine. Resistance: fusarium wilt race 1. Similar: Bison. Adaptation: midwestern United States. Lambeth, V. N., 1958, The Mozark tomato. Res. Bull. Mo. Agric. Ep. Sta, 680:8. 1958." https://web.archive.org/web/20160331.../tomatojr.html Last edited by Fusion_power; January 7, 2021 at 01:24 PM. |

I hoped someone else would post whether they have recent information on Bill Jeffers. Unfortunately, all I know is that he lived in Evansville Indiana.
I checked ARS-GRIN and found Mozark as PI 644815. One option would be to request it from the repository. |

I actually just received some seeds from Dave in Oklahoma, he was unsure on how old they are but i am excited to give them a try. Not sure how I’m going to start them but am very thankful to have them.
