More Asian Pears

Those pears look wonderful! I just love Asian pears. When the school kids come to learn about fruits and vegetables, I always have them try the Asian pear if I have them available.
Has it been and easy fruit to grow?

Remy, yes it is easy to grow. Besides pruning each year and spraying once in the spring it's no problem. Your weather is pretty much like mine so you shouldn't have any problem. Mine started producing fruit 3 years after planting. Ami

Can it pollinate itself?

Thanks Ami! I have been eying up a grafted multiple variety one for a couple years now. Last fall, I almost ordered one, but my apple tree got killed in the freak October storm we had here. So I had to get a replacement apple tree. This year barring any disasters, I'm going to order one.

dcarch, they do self pollinate but they say it is better to either plant two or more different varieties as I have or you can use european or standard pear varieties as pollinators as well. Ami

I have 6 Asian Pears,My wife is Korean, 1 ea Hosui,2ea Yoinishi and 3 ea Korean Dong Bae(Korean Giant). The Yoinishi is the supreme pollinator for Asian Pears.
A good source for Asian fruit is Burnt Ridge Nursery here in Washington State. They mail and the prices very reasonable. burntridgenursery.com
